The Thomas More Institute Digital Archives includes 3 sections: items, collections and exhibits.

Exhibits contain exhibition texts that draw upon the Institute's documentary heritage. By clicking the Browse Exhibits tab, you may browse through the exhibits featured on the website.

Collections contain groups of items. By clicking the Browse Collections tab, you may browse through the collections featured on the website.

Items consist of individual archival records. By clicking the Browse Items tab, you may browse through the items featured on the website.

Each item within the digital archives is tagged with descriptive keywords. Tags classify archival content so that it can be easily found. You may browse tags by going to Browse Items and selecting the Browse by Tag option. The tags will appear as a cluster and are scaled according to use with the most frequently used tags appearing in a larger font.

The simplest way to perform searches of the archives' content is to use the search bar on the lefthand side of the screen.

To perform a basic search, simply type the keyword you wish to search for in the field and either hit enter on your keyboard or click the Search (magnifying glass) button.

To access search options, click on the ellipses button (...) to the right of the search bar and select a query type:

  • keyword, or general search
  • Boolean, in which you can add Boolean operators like AND and NOT
  • Exact match, which will only find exact matches to your entry.

Finally, to perform an advanced search, click on the ellipses (...) button and then click the link to Advanced Search (Items only). You will be presented with a variety of options for advanced searching across all items in the archival collection.
